Just Words
The park bench was deserted as I sat down to read
Beneath the weeping branches of an old willow tree,
Disillusioned by life with good reason to frown,
For the world was intent on dragging me down.
And as if to ruin my rare quiet day,
A young boy approached me, all tired from play.
He stood right before me with his head tilted down
And said with excitement, 'Look what I found!'
In his hand was a flower, and what a pitiful sight,
With its petals all faded, from no rain or light.
Wanting him to take his dead flower and go play,
I faked a small smile and then shifted away.
But instead of retreating he sat by my side
And sniffed at the flower and declared with surprise,
'It sure smells pretty and it's beautiful, too.
That's why I picked it; here, it's for you.'
The poor weed before me was dying or dead,
No bright vibrant colors, no yellow or red.
But I knew I must take it, or he might never leave.
So I reached out my hand and said, 'Just what I need'.
But instead of him placing the flower in my hand,
He held it mid-air without reason or plan.
It was then that I noticed for the very first time
That weed-toting boy could not see, he was blind.
I heard my voice quiver, tears shone like the sun
As I thanked him for picking the very best one.
'You're welcome' he smiled, and then ran off to play,
Unaware of the impact he'd had on my day.
I sat there and wondered how he managed to see
A self-pitying woman beneath an old tree.
How did he know of my self-indulged plight?
Perhaps in his heart, he'd been blessed with true sight.
Through the eyes of a blind child, at last I could see
The problem was not with the world, it was me.
And for all of those times I myself had been blind
I vowed to see beauty, and appreciate what's mine.
I held that wilted flower up to my nose
And breathed in the fragrance of a beautiful rose,
And smiled as the boy, another weed in his hand,
Went to change the life of an unsuspecting old man.
My Love
My love has no hands,
It doesn’t try to hold you down,
pull you to my level,
push you into places you
don’t want to go.
My love has no eyes,
It doesn't seek your countenance
trying to find signs to distrust,
looking for excuses,
searching for sympathy.
My love has no feet,
It does not try to step
on your dreams,
trod upon your hopes and fears,
keep you beneath me.
My love has no mouth,
It does not speak lies
in the form of truths,
lash out to wound you,
trick you with flowery phrases.
My love has no end,
It will never expire,
it will never leave my heart
except to bind to yours.
Security
My security blanket,
hiding me from the rest of
the world, softening the
outline of harsh reality,
chilling my bones and
making me shiver to my soul.
Obscuring the future
and the past.
Making every step
a leap of faith
into the unknown.
Smile
I'll wipe away your tears,
I'll share your worries when they come
And help you face your fears.
I'm here and I will stand by you,
Each hill you have to climb.
So take my hand, let's face the world
Live one day at a time.
You're not alone, for I'm still here ...
I'll go that extra mile.
And when your grief is easier,
I'll help you learn to smile!
I Give to You
A fire to light inside your heart
to feel the warm embers glow.
A piece of the sun's warm rays,
to bask in it's fiery show.
I GIVE TO YOU
A piece of a rainbow to color your world,
when all seems totally grey.
Some roses for the sweet perfume,
to kiss your senses with its bouquet.
I GIVE TO YOU
A sprinkling of some twinkling stars,
to wish upon at night.
The morning dew to kiss the day,
To bask in it's delight.
I GIVE TO YOU
A summer's breeze to caress your face,
to show that someone cares.
The sweet song of the nightingale,
to remind you that I am always there.
I GIVE TO YOU
My lasting friendship, always true.
A gift of love to hold inside,
whenever you feel blue,
or just because you need a friend.
This friend...that will always be there for you!!
Confide In A Friend
When you're tired and worn at the close of the day,
and things just don't seem to be going your way,
when even your patience has come to an end,
try taking time out and confide in a friend.
Perhaps your friend may have walked the same road,
with a troubled heart and a burdensome load,
to find peace and comfort near the end -
when they stopped long enough to confide in a friend.
For then are most welcome, a few words of cheer,
for someone who willingly lends you an ear.
No troubles exist that God cannot mend,
but to get quick relief, just confide in a friend.
Fly
I'm here to tell you something
Something you should know
You are someone 'Special',
And I'm here to tell you so.
Your life, it is before you
Like fresh new fallen snow
The footprints that you make there
Are yours and yours alone.
It's up to you how they will look
Footprints crisp and sure
Or steps that seem to drag along,
The edges all a blur.
As you plan your course in life
And the steps you'll take
Be not afraid to alter plans,
If some mistakes you make.
All pencils have erasers
Mistakes I've made myself
Just keep right on, pursue your dreams,
Don't put them on a shelf.
Step carefully and slowly
Be not afraid to try
Adventure is before you,
Now spread your wings and fly!
Always Have A Dream
Forget about the day when it's been cloudy,
but don't forget your hours in the sun.
Forget about the times you've been defeated,
but don't forget the victories you've won.
Forget about mistakes that you can't change now,
but don't forget the lessons that you've learned.
Forget about misfortunes you encounter,
but don't forget the times your luck has turned.
Forget about the days when you've been lonely,
but don't forget the friendly smiles you've seen.
Forget about the plans that didn't work out right,
but don't forget to always have a dream.
