FAQ

1.  Why Chinese herbs?

2.  Does baking effect the potency of the herbs?

3.  Are the herbs safe?

4.  Will my dog like the biscuits?

5.  Why do your formulas, including your 'allergy formula', contain wheat?

1. Why Chinese herbs?

Chinese Herbology gives us 5,000 years of careful examination of a single herb's function, plus the enhanced impact of a multiple-herb formula. The value of a multi-herb formula is that the 'chief complaint' is addressed, as well as the deeper internal constitution that accompanies the primary symptom. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is known as treating 'the root and the branch' of the problem.

2. Does baking effect the potency of the herbs?

No. The pharmaceutical-grade herbs we use are in granulated form, which have already been processed under high heat and spray dried. The reintroduction of heat in the baking process is not enough to diminish the potency of the herbs, as it would if we had used liquid extracts instead of granules.

3. Are the herbs safe?

For a dog in adequate health, our formulas are safe and non-toxic -- even if your dog ingests a whole bag in one sitting. It is also safe to administer multiple formulas, or other quality pet supplements, at the same time. We like to say that the Chinese have been testing herbs on humans for thousands of years so we could make it safe for the animals! We encourage you to participate in a total holistic care program for your dog -- which includes supervision by a trained holistic veterinarian. This is especially true if your dog has long-standing, multiple, and/or severe health problems. To find a holistic veterinarian near you, call us at 877-526-9969.

4. Will my dog like the biscuits?

With nearly a 90% palatability rate, our biscuits have been proven to please some of the pickiest pooches. In testing various ingredients for our biscuit base, pumpkin came out the clear winner in taste and nutritional value. Chinese herbalists and some vets also recommend pumpkin as a Qi (Chi) Tonic to maintain overall health and regulate digestion. We have found that the pumpkin in our biscuits may be unfamiliar to some dogs at first. Don't worry if your dog doesn't chomp 'em up right away - break it up and give them some time alone to sniff it. You can also crush it up in their food.

5. Why do your formulas, including your 'allergy formula', contain wheat?

Wheat allergies have been a hot topic recently, but consider what the November, 2001 issue of the Whole Dog Journal says about wheat:

"Like corn, wheat contains gluten, a protein-rich faction that can cause allergies. Bear in mind, however, that very few dogs ever develop a true food allergy. The vast majority of allergic reactions in dogs is to airborne allergens that the dog inhales, like pollen or dust mites. Most food reactions are due to a food 'intolerance', rather than a real allergy. In that case, wheat is no more likely than any other food ingredient to be at fault."

Therefore the small amount of wheat in our biscuits should not be enough to trigger a reaction in dogs with wheat sensitivity. And our allergy formula, Sneezy Dog, is formulated to address airborne allergens, which are the more likely cause of dog allergies.
